Ha. My brother is trying to get a website started up for his band. He got me to take some pictures of him for the bio page. Fussy fussy fussy. I think he changed his shirt about three times. He posed with his guitar, his amp, even with a cardboard stand-up of Data (Star Trek) he has. Fuss fuss fuss.

Hmm...what do you get when you combine Darcy (Pride and Prejudice - A&E version: "Quick! Rewind to the swimming scene!") and Spike (of Buffy)? Sparcy, of course. Who is currently Monique's binder boy (i.e. pictures of both plastered all over her books). Add Legolas to the mix (which I think she will do, as soon as she sees the movie), and you get "Spargolas." Try saying that three times fast.

Lorf of the Rings tomorrow! Finally. Was going to try to catch a sneak preview screening at BV Tuesday night, but mom wouldn't let us...is 18 really too young to watch a movie at 10 pm with my 21-year-old brother? Anyway, I just finished reading the first book again. I actually liked it this time around; the first time I read it, it seemed really boring. Meh.
Nine hour shopping marathon yesterday. Fairview in the morning, Eaton Centre in the afternoon with Ming and Mon. Eventually, we went into shoe stores only because they had chairs available. Mmm...Old Navy.
Carol Service at 6.30...very hot basement. Changed into my uniform without even noticing that there were men (teachers and dignified parents) just around the corner. Oh well. Someone gave me a little glow in the dark finger puppet/monster before we sat down. Ended up playing with it all night ("Grr! Argggh!") instead of listening.

Too tired to write anything right now. First real day of school since exams. Guh.

Shopping, shopping, shopping. And bubble tea. Actually more like following mom around Fairview Malll for three hours. Well, I got birthday pajamas out of it (they glow in the dark!). I was told that I would wake up in the middle of the night sometime and scare myself silly, but no problems so far. Homing's coming home tomorrow! Yeah ha ha ha. Even out the odds: two parents vs. two kids.

Psst. Let me tell you a secret...
I have a magic locker.
Really! I got to school this morning and it had miraculously sprouted leaves and flowers and a lop-sided bluebird. And everytime I opened it today, there was a present waiting for me! First some raspberry Body Shop stuff (yum), then a piggy bank (monkey bank? Shaped like one), and then one of those spiffy fiberglass lights. It's magic, I tell you!
Of course, it could be because it's my birthday today and none of my friends could find me because of the chem exam, so they left stuff in my locker instead, but that isn't likely. It was magic. I have a magic locker. Nothing more, nothing less.

A deep thought from the:edge:
"Who was the idiot who invented the fork when we've got perfectly good fingers?"
A clarification from Moby:
"So, to clarify, I'm going to a hot, dry, dusty place with sand and rocks, and I'm not going to a land of chocolate and whipped cream."
And a spastic exam panic from me:
"Physics exam in four days! Gaaaa! Ffffftz! Ffftttz! THUNK!"

Again, new template. I really should be studying, but I got bored. Another random title image. I wonder how long I can stay with black and white before changing it again? Ho-hum. I starting to miss blue. No, no. Will stick with change. I still need to play around with the font colour. The text is a little too glaring. And bold text looks funny. The thing about Blogger is that it looks completely different after you publish it. Different from a trial template, I mean. The spacing gets all messed up.
Spiffy! bwg world tour. Hey, he's coming to Toronto! Today (gone already, I'm guessing), and on the 11th (coincidentally my birthday and my chemistry exam). By the looks of it, it's just a stopover. Enjoy Pearson, bwg! Even if you do end up in the terminal with the 70's funkishness (i.e. orange and brown tile motif from, when else, the 70's).
11.30.2001
I'm free! Free! No school for two glorious days! Studying, but no school! We're having a surprise birthday party for my aunt tomorrow. Did I mention no more driving classes? "Lang chane! Lang chane! Sticky eye!" Heh heh heh. At robotics right now, but my team has, I don't know, disappeared. So I"m waiting for Ming and whoever else is getting a ride from her to finish. Doo, dee, doo, dee....

The Webel strikes again. I was sorting through my email when I found an old 'Life' email from Gen. I think she's having trouble with her computer:
"i also managed to burn my cdr drive to some horrible death which is really odd b/c they're pretty hard to destroy without physically smashing it. i know, its a gift."
And later...
"oh ****, i forgot the gratuitious swearing."

Now all I have to do is wait. Until April. Finally finished my university applications! I was scared to write anything on the form at all, because I know I'd make a mistake (and I did...I put the code for Queen's Arts instead of Science. D'oh.) Now I need to work on my Economics and Chem ISUs. And catch up on my sleep. ZZZ.

Sleep = good. Spent the entire morning working on the school newspaper, the entire afternoon at driving class, and the entire evening typing up articles because I wasn't given a copy on disk. Notice that 'homework' didn't appear on the list. Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow?
Oh, and there's going to be an amazing meteor shower tonight (Leonids). It's the first time I'll be able to see one because it's usually been cloudy. BUT. The best time to view it is at 5 AM. Gak. Sleep....or meteor shower that won't be seen for another 100 hundred years. If I manage to wake up in time, I'll go see it.

Alright Wesley! In case you haven't heard, Wil Wheaton will be returning to TNG. Or at least the next (and last :( ) Star Trak: Next Generation movie. I wonder how they'll bring Wesley back from wherever he went with the Traveller. Spiffy! "WHEEE!" indeed. ^_^

Avalon. This mirrors my situation at school so much that it's scary. University? OUAC forms? Next week?!
Speaking of university applications, the guidance counselor made another student cry. The counselor encouraged her at the beginning of the year to apply to as many American universities as she wanted. Today, she told her point blank not to try, that there wasn't any point in applying because her chances of being accepted was "virtually zero." Some guidance. It's been happening for years now, the same person telling people not to apply to Ivy League, Oxford, special programs, etc. because they wouldn't get in.

Some memorable quotes.
"Karate is a form of martial arts in which people who have had years and years of training can, using only their hands and feet, make some of the worst movies in the history of the world." -- Dave Barry
"If it's supposed to move and it doesn't, spray with WD-40; if it's not supposed to move and it does, wrap with duct tape; if it's more complicated than this, use a Swiss Army knife."
"There are two types of people in this world: those who think giant steam powered robotic spiders are stupid, and those who don't." -- Bryan F. Theiss
"No sprinkles! For every sprinkle I find, I shall kill you!" -- Evil baby from The Family Guy
"Happy is the man who can laugh at himself, for he will never cease to be amused."
Hey! That's mine! I seem to have a mirror site. Pardon me, but I believe that is my template, image and title. The image is even linked from my Geocities site. And visits to it are recorded in my referrals. I'm a little annoyed because I spent a lot of time on this template (yes, laugh at my pitifully slow HTML skills), but I wrote it all by myself (whoop) with no help, except for colours from htmlgoodies.com. And within ten days, someone steals my code. >:(
Remembrance Day... Lest we forget.
In Flanders' fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly,
Scarce heard amidst the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders' fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe,
To you from falling hands we throw
The Torch - be yours to hold it high;
If ye break faith with us who die.
We shall not sleep though poppies grow
In Flanders' fields.
In Flanders' Fields was written by Lt. Col. John McCrae of Guelph, Canada. Died January 28, 1918 while on active service in France. The wars that he and countless others fought in may be over, but more seem to be on their way. When will there truly be peace?
11.09.2001
Driving class tomorrow. Not actually driving...it's the in-class lessons (i.e. nap sessions). 1.45 to 5.55pm. I don't know how I've been staying awake. I've mostly been doing homework during them, because all the info is common knowledge (green means go, red means stop, turn the steering wheel to change direction, getting into car crashes is bad, etc). Only two more to go.
11.08.2001
Gah...cable modem... I think Dad is willing to get cable or high speed internet now that he's seen all the stuff the Minger has on his computer: Monsters Inc. (bad quality though), all of the episodes of Enterprise that have been aired so far, the Transformers movie (extremely good quality, but over 600 MB), etc. I'm downloading Trigun right now. ^_^
Speaking of Queen's... We're going to go visit my brother at Queen's in about half an hour. Sleeping over at his house. And no, Homing, I'm not staying in the living room with you with, or without earplugs. You snore like a Mack truck in a blender, being flushed down a noisy toilet while coughing like a pig stuck under a fence. You're staying with dad! I can't make it any clearer than that.
University, ho! Visited Guelph, Waterloo and McMaster yesterday. Now I'm scared of going to university. Everyone looked so busy and stressed. Come to think of it, they looked a lot like me and my grad class (grammar?) this term.
Guelph was stinky. Well, it smelled like horse manure the whole time we were there (farming nearby). There was a big poster sale in the main hall (Rei Ayanami poster! Jen bought it. The one with the moon in the background).
Waterloo was stinky. Rotting leaves and all. Lots of Canadian geese and squirrels (or as Jen calls them, "tree rats"). That is all.
McMaster was spiffy. I like the dorms (especially the railing inside the stairwells...keeps students from "falling" during midterms). Apparently, it's tradition to hit on people on university tours. Some guy yelled out a phone number at us from his dorm window. Meg: "Whatever!", to which Dorm Guy yells back, "WHATEVER TO YOU TOO!" Riiiiight.
Oh, and McMaster was stinky, too. I'm thinking Queen's right now.

As usual, the bwg reminds us of the good things in life:sleep of the innocent. And I've thought about this, too. What would Hong Kong, or even China, be like today, if there had been no outside influence?
Pictures. Came back from church today, only to find that the backyard had...vanished. Well, half of it was completely covered with a 6 inch layer of maple leaves. So, naturally, I took some pictures. And tried to get my grandma to jump in the huge pile that we swept up. And lugged the patio table into the basement (downstairs). Here they are:
Same tree, but with the sun out. Rickety birdhouse.
Other side of the backyard. Pretty trees! ^_^

Car accident. We (Ming, Alli, Mon&Mon and I) were on our way back from a charity lunch at another school in Ming's car, when blue Honda rear-ended us. It was by accident of course, and there wasn't much damage (a little scratch on the bumper), but Ming was really shaken. My neck still aches a little and I got a headache (partly due to the crappy rainy weather). The thing is, it was only a little bump, but the impact snapped my head forward (it HURT)... So imagine the force of a big car crash on a highway, for example. Eep.

Aww...kawaii. Temporary Hallowe'en template at usr/girl/punkin, formerly known as usr/bin/girl. Go check it out. And speaking of Hallowe'en, the school had the annual pumpkin carving contest today. Ours (grads) was a pumpkin....barfing into a toilet. Hmm... not very cheerful.

Ah...the bliss that is a pop-up ad free webpage. I can't wait for digitalrice to go back up again. The geocities ad, though small, is irritating. And the big camera ad always, always, always comes up. Argh! New template would be done by now, if I could only find a good picture for the title. Ah well.

The following is an excerpt from an editorial letter from The Toronto Star. Cannot even describe how much this, well, annoys me (it angered me too, but I waited until I calmed down a bit until I wrote this). Basically, the newspaper published photographs of young children who were injured in the U.S. bombing of Afghanistan on the front page yesterday. Today, some numbnuts wrote the following which was published in the 'letters to the editor' section.
"What are you trying to do — shore up sympathy for those people over there in that country? Are you trying to put those Afghan civilians in the same category as the victims of the senseless violence of Sept. 11? That's ludicrous. Those kids are probably going to grow up to be so many more terrorist, fundamentalist extremists anyway, better to do away with 'em now. If we start sympathizing with those people then where would that leave us? ..... Might is right, and if the U.S. of A. says we should bomb 'em, then we should. This is no time for dissent and so-called "critical thinking," we're trying to protect our democracy.
Right. So as a Chinese Canadian teenager living in the city of Toronto, I will most definitely grow up to be a drug addict? Or a loud, rude Chinese woman, who spits on the floor and picks her teeth on the bus? Or maybe I will become a "fundamentalist, extremist" Protestant. Gotcha. I guess I can forget my plans for university. Heck, I might as well even quit high school. Why bother? "Better to do away with 'em now", right? (end sarcasm here).
Honestly, it boggles the mind. I can't believe that anyone could write such a callous, unfeeling... ignorant letter. But now that I think about it, there are probably more letters like that, since the Toronto Star only published one. Now that's a little scary.

Skkkknnnxxx... *sound of Dagwood snoring*. I guess it's a good thing that that was my first dance. If I had gone to all the other ones, I would have been bored out of my mind. Music was mainly hip hop or dance, both of which I can only take in small doses. Although there was a period when the DJ played spiffy late 80's/early 90's songs: Vanilla Ice ^_^, Cindy Lauper, Blur, etc.
It was fun seeing all the grads dressed up as "rock" stars (actually mostly pop stars). Heggs, (my fellow Horrible Music Basher), Alli and Kathleen were Josie and the Pussycats. Monique, Ainsle and Anya dressed up as three, uh, hoes, minus a pimp, (there to service the stars, of course). I wore my Bon Jovi bandana (just to show people some real rock stars ^_^), but it was eventually decided that I was groupie/rabid fangirl. But the best dressed girls were, hands down, the two 80's groupies, complete with layers of tights and flouncy clothing, big hoop earrings, garish blue/green make-up and funky hair. I'm not even going to mention what some of the grade 9's wore (mostly painted on by the looks of it).
10.18.2001
Rock star. SCS dance tomorrow (theme: Rock Star). I promised my friends that I would go this year, but I'm not sure it's worth the $10 ticket. I don't enjoy dancing, I won't know half the people there, and the music probably won't really appeal to me either. Plus it means I'll have to skip Agape for the fourth time in six weeks.

Happy 75th Birthday Pooh! Or, "HIPY PAPY BTHUTHDTH THUTHDA BTHUTHDY!" To Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit, Owl (WOL), Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Trespassers Will and Poohsticks. I found a great Pooh site while looking for piccies: Just Pooh. Or click on the image below (incidentally, from just-pooh.com as well ^_^).

Ahahaha... Data? At least he didn't get The Iron Giant (A Big Hunk Of Metal Love). It just doesn't sound right for a girl.
Oh, and here's a spiffy entry by Wil about some of his experiences with TNG: Life in the so-called Space Age.
Asian Barbie?. Link from aiyah.net. Here's what Winne, (a.k.a. Aiyah-chick) has to say:
"I actually have a few more ideas for them. I think there should be a mahjong doll with three other cohorts to round out a full table of mahjong players. They can have little mj tiles in a mj case and small chips as money to use. It should naturally come with the table with a smooth top so that the tiles can flow on top of it. The dolls should come squeak out "pong!" and other mj exclamations when squeezed. And don't forget the servant doll who should fetch them tea and snacks while they're playing."
Heh. How about a little sister version (like Skipper and Barbie) named Ming? Two acre bangs, lop-sided pigtails, a piano/viola music book in one hand, and a science textbook in the other?"

Grr...arrr... Imagine the monster guy at the end of Buffy. I come to school this morning and it's full of-- of-- people! In weird uniforms! And funny looking boys in kilts! SCS had the Prefect Breakfast this morning. Not only is the school filled with people (who are probably laughing at our carpeted gym or pink lockers), the lunchroom is filled with delicious, forbidden food! Grr...arr...

My Theme Song: Walking On Sunshine
"Your upbeat approach to life makes "Walking on Sunshine" the perfect anthem for you. We can see you dancing down the vegetable isle with your grocery cart, smiling at all the checkout clerks. We sure hope you've had your Wheaties to keep up with your perky pace all day long. This happy, horn-driven tune carries you to work every day. And even in those brief lapses when you're not fully on your game, "Walking On Sunshine" seems to put things in perspective and get you back to your super groove. "And don't it feel good?" Who cares that this tune was a one-hit wonder for Katrina and the Waves? Even that quality matches your one-of-a-kindness. You're walkin' on sunshine and spreading it wherever you go."
There's a profile of Utada Hikaru at Time "music goes global" (wasn't it always global?) section: Diva On Campus. It's funny how they compare her to Britney Spears (around the same age, bothe huge stars)... but I don't think Britney is considering neuroscience as her future career area.
An article about cantopop as well: Cantopop Kingdom. Andy Lau is 40?!
A Child's Mind
A little boy was in a relative's wedding. As he was coming down the aisle he would take two steps, stop, and turn to the crowd (alternating between bride's side and groom's side). While facing the crowd, he would put his hands up like claws and roar loudly.
So it went, step, step, ROAR, step, step, ROAR all the way down the aisle. As you can imagine, the crowd was near tears from laughing so hard by the time he reached the front. The little boy, however, was getting more and more distressed from all the laughing, and was near tears by the time he reached the pulpit. When asked what he was doing, the child sniffed and said, "I was just being the Ring Bear!"

New Comic! Well, not really new, but I forgot to check it all summer. As If.
t says: YAY we get yearbooks tomorrow! they are the best! I secretly wish that it won't rain (but it will) so i can skip field day and laugh at everyone else!! ahahahah!! you know, i don't even own any green cuz i look horrible in it!!! so what good is it dressing like the lucky charms guy!!! oh you know who that reminds me of? that guy in austin powers!! i don't remember his name though...
Umm...Riiiiight... (Yes, I mock thee!)
10.03.2001
Owwwiee... I've had a constant headache for the past two days. It doesn't help that this week is chock ful of tests and assignments. I mentioned it to Ming and she told me about a new virus related to meningitis that causes headaches. Great... I'll go off and be paranoid and neurotic for a couple of days now.

Pretty wedding. Flowers, lace, more flowers, more lace. My cousin looked so happy (see: grin plastered on face). Looooooong dinner. Around 4 hours (gak!). My brother caught the garter belt (Ha!). I froze to death (air conditioning in October is pointless). Mmmm... good food. Sorry if this all seems a little unemotional. The last time I had a conversation with my cousin was three years ago, about Terry Brooks books and Star Trek.

I'm hooked. Neopets.com has me. It all started innocently enough. I was watching Heggs play with her pet, when it struck me... "K-k-k-kawaii!" (see: Miyazawa and Tsubasa). So I registered and now I have a cute blue Shoyru, temporarily named Puuchu. Isn't he cute?

9.25.2001
Wattack! I smash! The computer crashed yesterday morning. My dad almost freaked when the antivirus program popped up and told him there was a virus. He had to delete some vital files and reload Windows to fix it. MP3s! My precious MP3s are okay! Booyah! Whoever sent it to us is on my Wattack list. Hiyah!
Rumble rumble... I feel the stirring of an approaching template change. I've been averaging one major site overhaul every two months so far. And jus a reminder that a guestbook is for signing.
Eep! Today during assembly, one of the teachers told us that three grade sevens where being followed while walking to the subway station. The guy was crouched behind a car and taking pictures of them. He ran away when he noticed that they had noticed him. A couple of minutes later, they saw him again. They ducked into a nearby store to lose him. He was later seen taking pictures of other girls from our school walking on the same route. Scary scary scary because the majority of people at my school walk home/walk to the subway....
9.23.2001
Tee hee! Pocket Bishonen. They can run, but they can't hide... ^_^. Although I don't think Ikari Gendou, Allen Schezar, Dilandau and Krillen could be possibly considered bishonen.
9.22.2001
Poetry... I have a day to write a 'highly conventional sonnet on the topic of love/death/poetry as an art form/time/changes in either the Shakespearian or Italian style.' Okie-day. No problem. I'll just sit here and stew for a couple of hours. Then I will frantically write several lines, re-read them, trash them, and bang my head against the desk until I am purple. After that, at approximately 1 am, I will finally sheepishly scrawl something in my notebook, which I will presume to call a poem the next day in English class. Peasy as ie.

Visitor! My mom's friend from HK is visiting Toronto. Well, only for about 10 hours or so. She was in Boston, helping her daughter move into her dorm (at MIT!) when the terrorists attacks happened. She was worried about flying from Boston to L.A. (?) to HK, so she's flying up to Toronto, then to... to somewhere on the west coast, and then to HK. I think we're going out for dinner tonight, which isn't all that good, because I have to work (Quiznet tonight! Go useless knowledge!)

Heh. Moby is funny:
"Hi. I just got back from my crazy insane debauched night of post-vma celebration...Actually after the awards I went to a restaurant and had a bowl of spaghetti (penne, actually) with my friend Damian. Then we went to a quiet party and now I'm home. Sober as a churchmouse. I guess it's just another example of something that I need to learn how to do in rock-star school...
Lesson #47: Real rock-stars do not go off to eat spaghetti after winning a prestigious award.
Lesson #48: Real rock-stars do not sleep alone after winning the aforementioned prestigious award.
Like I said, I've got some learning to do regarding my rock-stardom... But the penne was really tasty. With garlic and basil. I'm getting hungry again..."
Goodbye Tickle Trunk... "Ernie Coombs, TV's Mr. Dressup, dies at 73." Mr. Dress-up was, and still is, my favourite kid's show. I remember wanting a dog because Finnegan was so cute. Drawing became my favourite hobby because Mr. Dress-Up did it, too. I remember the simple crafts made of old egg cartons, some felt and a couple of toilet paprt rolls. This may sound a little cheesy, but he made me want to have a grandpa (both of mine died many years ago) that was just like him. Condolences to his family, and thank you for being such a great friend to kids everywhere.
Argh! Today is not a good day. I purposely went to bed at 10.30 last night in a pathetic attempt to actually get enought sleep for once. Unfortunately, I didn't fall asleep until about 1 am, and woke up again at 4.30 am. Missed my alarm and had a frenzied 15 minutes to wash, get dressed, make my lunch, have breakfast, take out the trash and go back and put my forgotten lunch into my backpack. I get to school with 2 minutes to change into my uniform. Test in chem, essay in English. Just peachy.

Weird search engine referral. Possibly the weirdest I've had yet: "FAN boys +English -comic -comics". All I can say is.....huh? And why did my page come up in the search results? I think I mentioned fanboys once many months ago. And now that I've mentioned them again, I'll probably show up in more searches for them. Dang. So I guess I shoud mention all the things I want to be found for, eh? Non sequitur, hoyan, kobuta, blog, weblog, and radioactive tribble, among other things. ^_^
9.16.2001
And on another note... passed 400 visits to this page. Whoop-de-doo. I haven't felt very enthusiatic about anything lately. Bubble-less. Maybe it's because of what happened last week. Or because school started. Or the fact that it's slowly getting colder and I know in my bones that summer is going to end some time or another. Darn Smarch weather...
9.15.2001
Wow. We watched the first 7 tapes of Evangelion, Dragonhalf, lots of MuchMusic, and some Saturday morning cartoons. Yes, we have lives. Nestea consumption: 4 cans. At 7 p.m., we all went out to J's front yard and lit a candle on the unfinished stonework by her driveway in memory of all those who lost their lives this past week.
I haven't had time to read the paper yet today, but it appears M. Bush is getting ready to attack Afghanistan to flush out the people who planned the terrorist attacks. I think Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher...le sigh... ^_^) sums it up quite well:
"Here's my number one fear: I fear that Bush (who disgusts me, so just know that, and save your flames for someone who cares) will see this as an opportunity to look "Presidential", and bomb "Them" back to the stone age, and figure out who "They" are later. Sure, I think that we should find out who did this, and deal with them...but I fear the way it's going to be handled."
9.14.2001
Ho-hum. In the most recent poll at Asian Avenue, the following question was asked: How should the United States respond to the terrorist attacks of September 11th?
Of the 8000+ responses...
- 38% voted to "find the terrorists and then bomb them and their countries"
- 34% voted to "find the terrorists and carry out surgical military strikes against them only."
- 15% voted to "find the terrorists, capture them and try them in US courts."
- 13% voted to "work peacefully to resolve the overall Mid-East crisis"
I guess we really do want peace, don't we?
This will only make it worse. In the face of the tragic events this week, many people are openly expressing their anger towards Muslims or people of Middle Eastern descent. I've heard about mosques being vandalized, people being harassed on the streets, even an anti-Arab parade or sorts in Texas. Is it really that hard to understand that these people are innocent? Many of them grew up in America or consider themselves as much an American as anybody else. Have you read Jish's post today? Make sure you send him an encouraging word.

Oh my gosh. I just found out my cousin's school is within a mile of the WTC. This whole time I thought her university campus was outside of New York, or at least, not in Manhatten.
She just emailed us and told us that all classes have been cancelled, all stores (except supermarkets and some internet cafes) are closed. Apparently some of the buildings (dorms?) are right next to the WTC and all the students who were staying there are now camped out in the indoor basketball courts. Luckily, her building wasn't evacuated, and she's okay.
It's scary. This strikes so close to home.

Oh help. I can't believe this has happened. And today is the UN's International Day Of Peace. Hijacked Planes Destroy Twin Towers, Burn Pentagon. I can't even begin to imagine the loss of life. What kind of sick bastards would do something like this? It's just...I can't describe the feeling. Heard about it on the radio at school today. Please pray for the victims and their families and friends. My cousin is in New York, too. She probably wouldn't have been near the Trade Center, but I'm still worried.

Mosquitos and black flies and bear(s), oh my! Have been back from trip for a week now, but have been too busy to write about it (mumbleSchoolmumble). The whole "I'm going to keep a daily journal and write in it religiously and record every single event thereby preserving it's memory forever and ever" plan didn't work. For one thing, was too busy and tired to even remember that the thang even existed. I did write in it for the middle 4 days, but then forgot.
After spending a day travelling (Toronto to Seattle, wait 3 hours, Seattle to Juneau), we arrived in the capital of Alaska. Very cold. And wet. And...small? We only spent a day there, so I can't say much. Briefing session at night, met all the other people on the trip and the trip leader. Most people were American, one other family from T.O. and a very spiffy lady from England (Baw-th, not Bah-th).
Left the next day. We were flown in a tiny, wobbly, woozyness-inducing 8 person plane to a little airstrip. Ate sandwhiches in the rain.
To be continued. I have to eat dinner now.

Noooooooooooo~!!! Well, school has started again. As strange as it sounds (to me), I'm a grad, an OAC. We got our grad sweatshirts today (baby blue, navy lettering: "And then there were none."). For the first time, our class got to sit on the exalted Bench at the back of the gym during assembly. Mar har har. But since our grad class is atypically, indecently large (for our school), we can all barely fit in one line. Oh well. We get our gold belts tomorrow! Tra la la!

It's my crack.
I've found a new addiction. So far, I can't along without Pocky, iced tea, Hong Kong style tea, tofu...and now, bubble tea. Anyone who has been a Chinese or Asian mall has probably seen stores or cafes with bubble tea as their main product. Basically, bubble tea consists of black or green tea, with or without milk and/or a yummy flavouring. And little gummy tapioca balls (a.k.a. pearls, boba). There's a recipe for it at the TenRen website, here. Mmm....tapiOca...

Dad: We'll go to Pacific for lunch and then I'll bring you to the doctor.
Me: Wait, what doctor? Why?
Dad: For your tetanus shot.
Me: *massive face fault*

Wow. Scott McNeill sure gets around. I was looking at the CN Anime/Sci Fi Expo/Comic Con website and found him on the guest list. The guy has done voices for tons of animated series, including characters such as Rattrap (cheering) and Waspinator (more cheering) from Beast Machines, the original Piccolo from DBZ, and Duo Maxwell in Gundam Wing (not much to say here. I'm not particularly fond of the GW dubbing. Heck, I'm not fond of any English dubbing I've hear so far). He's also done voices for Reboot, the Escaflowne dub (twitching here), Mummies Alive and...G.I. Joe?
I just find it really strange, because now that I think about it, I can recognize his voice in so many of those series. And yes, I watch all, (or at least most of), those shows. Embrace the toon!
Other guests at the con include: William "The Paunch" Shatner, James Doohan, Peter Mayhew (a.k.a. Chewie), Ethan Philips (Neelix), Yumi Touma (Japanese voice actress for Ah! Megami-sama!, Lodoss and Fushigi Yuugi), and a plethora of voice actors of anime dubs (...). There will also be lots of comic book artists and writers that I've never heard of because I don't read comic books. Check out the websites here. The event is at the Metro Convention Centre, from August 24 to 26.
Sucks, though. I won't be in town that weekend. But now I know what I'm missing. :)

I'll have a large order of smog with a side of aphids.
It's been a strange summer in Toronto (weatherwise). There have been more smog alerts than I can count and for the past couple of weeks, the average temperature has been hovering above 30 celsius. And no rain. The result is that whenever I venture outside (I'm turning into a girl-shaped piece of tofu) a wave of hot, sticky, soggy air slams into me. The usual result is that I'm swept back indoors towards the closest a/c vent.
To top it all off, a cloud of aphids has descended on certain areas of downtown T.O. Yesterday it was so bad that it obscured most of the Blue Jays game at the Skydome. Which wasn't such a bad thing, since they lost. Hey...no great loss without some small gain, right?

Stagnation. I am SO sick of my job. Don't get me wrong. I don't mind having a job. I don't mind working. But when you're stuck memorizing codes for three weeks straight, doing nothing but standing around in the produce aisles trying not to get into anyone's way, it's simply a waste of time. Even though I'm getting paid for it, it isn't worth the money. Occasionally, you help the cashiers bag for the customers, but other than that, there is no actual work being done. I understand that it's all part of the preparation for putting us on the machines, but at least give us something to do. Since school is starting soon, I'll probably have to quit. By the time I get home, I have 15 minutes to eat dinner, get changed, and walk the 10 minute walk to the store. This is also my graduating year, and I have to do well or I'm toast when it comes to university. I feel like I'm slowly....slowly...rotting....away...zzz...

Goofy grin. Good concert. July 17th. One Wild Night Tour. Molson Amp. Apart from the fact that Jon and Co. were mere specks on stage, and that several people around us were smoking pot, it was a great show. Lots of old songs, from older records: Lay Your Hands On Me, I'll Be There For You, Prayer, etc. I forget the order. Darn darn darn. Other songs played: Captain Crash, One Wild Night (of course), It's My Life, Just Older (mid-life crisis song!), Bed Of Roses (le sigh...), Dead or Alive, Wild in the Streets, You Give Love A Bad Name, Bad Medicine, Keep the Faith, I Got the Girl, and-- and...I forget what else. I'm sure my brother remembers.
According to said brother, their fashion sense has improved. No white "lab coat" for Richie this time. Dave seems to have a penchant for sparkly-type shirts. Tico looked spiffy, as ever. And as for Jon... I don't know what was better, the sexy pleather suit and cowboy hat or the spiffy Sopranos baseball shirt and rainbow coloured toque. Tough decision. He's a sweet talker, that one. After dancing with a Toronto lass during 'Bed of Roses': "Are all the girls in Canada this sweet?" Tee hee. And no, I am not smitten. ^_^
Another downer: most of the songs sounded exactly the same as on the CD's. The Toronto Star review complained that it was emotionally one-dimensional and that no one recognized the songs until the chorus came up. Stoopid man. If you actually listened to the albums before you went you would have recognized them.
Encore: Out comes the toque. I actually like the encore better than the concert (well, almost). Songs: Twist and Shout :), that spiffy Tequila song and Someday I'll Be Saturday Night. Hee hee. Incidentally, that's my current favourite (Bon Jovi) song, so I was happy.
And the best part is, apparently they're working on another new album, which means another tour... hee hee hee. Can't wait.

I say again: My Brain Hurts. Welp...I've started working at the supermarket. And I never, EVER want to see another apple again. All the new casheir trainees have to memorize the codes for all the produce. And there's an awful lot. I mean, 10 varieties of apples, oranges, cheeries, grapes, plums, etc., etc., etc. I feel like I'm back in school, cramming for an exam or something.
What was really funny was at a meeting a couple days earlier (Orientation), all the new employees were sitting at a table, waiting for the woman who was training us to come back from the washroom, when a bout of dirty language comes pouring into the hallway.
"...you don't know anything, b****, so shut your mouth!" (talking to a guy)
"I'm not your b****!"
And so on and so forth. All of a sudden, silence reigns and someone whispers, "Hey, dude...orientation!" to which a loud voice replies, "Damn! Orientation? Why didn't anyone tell me there was orientation going on!"
Aha. Ahahahahaha.

I'm on a roll, baby! A week ago, I was unemployed and at a loss as to what I was going to be doing for the rest of the summer. And all of a sudden, BANG! I get a call from Longo's. Cashier job...okay, it's at night and only three nights a week, but it's still a job! That same day, I get a call from the hospital. It turns out they actually do need volunteers. And today I got a call from the art teacher at a daycamp, so I'll be volunteering there as well. Sw33t!

Darn. No flying cows. Well, yesterday there was a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for most of southern Ontario, as well as a tornado warning in effect for areas just north of Toronto. So come 6 pm, the wind starts to pick up, a little thunder, a spattering of rain and...the sun comes out. Not a puddle on the ground. Bah! So much for a thunderstorm, much less a tornado.

Breakfast Club. I love 80's movies. Especially this one. The Breakfast Club was on CItyTV today. Watched it during lunch. I like the way it dissects the whole high-school clique system.
Dear Mr. Vernon,
We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it is we did wrong.
But we think you're crazy for making us write an essay telling you who we think we are.
You see us as you want to see us...in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions.
But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain...an athlete...a basketcase...a princess...and a criminal.
Does that answer your question?
Sincerely yours, The Breakfast Club.

Happy Canada Day!!
Celebrated Canada's 134th birthday by sleeping in, watching Unbreakable, eating lots of cake-mix cake, and laughing hysterically at Rick Mercer's "Talking to Americans" (This Hour Has 22 Minutes Special). Incase you don't know, the show is a part of a Canadian comedy television show. Rick Mercer approaches Americans in various cities, telling them rediculous things about Canada. Here are some highlights:
"Congratulations, Canada, on making Beaver Balls your national dish!"
"Did you hear? Our Prime Minister, Tim Horton, just got a double-double."
"(Canadian) Prime Minister Jean Poutine, who said that he wouldn't endorse any candidate, said that you look like the man who should lead the free world into the 21st century. So what do you think about that? How is his endorsement?"
Dubya's response: "I appreciate his strong statement. He understands, I believe, in free trade. He understands I want to make sure our relations with our most important nation, our neighbours to the north, the Canadians, is strong, and we'll work closely together."
"Congratulations Canada, our Eskimo neighbours to the South, on your new Mount Mulroneyuk."
"Congratulations Canada on preserving your national igloo."

Triple H! Hot. Hazy. Humid. It hit 32 degrees Celcius yesterday. For Americans, that's about 100 F (100 something F?). In any case, it's pretty darn hot. I'm staying at my aunts house for a couple of days because my parents are going out of town. They have a webcam sitting on top of the monitor I'm using now. Sorely tempted to see how it works, but am afraid I'll break something (which I probably will).

Mmm...street meat... Went to Costco's today with my aunt, my mom and my two cousins. Strange family outing. The building looks like an old abandoned warehouse that was spraypainted a geriatric white and hosed down to get rid of the chalk outlines. Inside, it's essentially a mall with all the mannequins and plastic plants removed. Or a Home Depot store stuffed full of clothes, food and various other things instead of circular saws and 2 by 4's.
We actually had lunch there too. My cousins, 12 and 10, are going through that "I-love-fast-food-feed-me-Mickey-D's" stage and insisted on eating at the little canteen type place in the store. So. we all had hot dog's for lunch. Hence the street meat title.
We must have spent an half an hour digging through piles and piles of clothing, left behind by hordes of mostly middle-aged women pulling wheelies around the store after they had found $10.99 sweaters for their husbands' birthday presents. But the clothes were alright, the same quality as you would find in other, more expensive stores.
The whole time we were there, all I could think about was the old Adam comic strips, with Adam driving home with a huge bottle of maple syrup strapped to the roof of his minivan. Hee hee hee...not too far from the truth.
WARNING: Whining ahead. Why is it so hot? This is TORONTO, not Miami. This summer has been unusually warm from the very beginning. I think it hit 30 C way back in May, and now Mother Nature is doing it again. This entire week has been comprised of alternately flopping around by the a/c, consuming massive amounts of ice cream, and trying to ignore the humidity while reading Pern books. Ah, the icy coldness of between.
6.24.2001
I'm baaaaaa-aaaack...Well San Fran was fun. I have so many impressions and experiences that it's impossible to describe them all. Cable cars are fun. I want them in Toronto. The fare is too expensive, though. US $2 for a one way trip! Sheesh. Fisherman's Wharf was very fishy, cold and toursity. My mom and I went on a boat tour of the Bay. Again, cold and windy. People kept on thinking we were Japanese tourists.
We did a lot of shopping. Our hotel was located next to Union Square, so we walked around Macy's and the like for a while, but left after 5 minutes in each store. Is it just me, or is everything more pricey in America? We had bought a Gundam model kit (Custom Sandrock - Endless Waltz) for my nephew in Toronto for about $20 Canadian. Later, he told us he bought a Custom Deathscythe (also from the Endless Waltz series) for $25 American, which equals about $37 Canadian.
6.17.2001
Leaving on a jet plane...Okay, so it's not a jet plane, but I am leaving. The 'rents and I are going to the lovely city of San Francisco for about a week. My dad has a conference to go to and we're tagging along for the ride. So probably no updates for about a week (unless I can find a computer or internet cafe with a decent price).
I've never been to the west coast. Well, at least, not at an age when I would have remembered it. We'll be going to visit my cousin and her kids (my nephews!) and unloading a wagonful of presents from my grandma and co. for them. I feel a little bad because when my older nephew came to visit us several years ago, my brother and I tormented him to no end. ^_^'
Also a visit to Lake Tahoe (some 2 hours away from San Fran) for a day or two. We have to bring some warmer clothes because of this. *Grumble.* It'll be a nice change though, seeing that in Toronto it's been like an oven for the past week or so.

Like a dead fish. It's too hot. I can't move. 31 degrees Celcius today, 40 degrees with the humidex. One of those days where you just want to lie on the couch and try not to stick to it. Eventually, you peel yourself off it and lie on the floor because hot air, rises, ne? Flop around a bit, and then decide to dig a hole in your basement and join the bugs it the cool, damp earth. Ahh... ;)

I find this very amusing...
Patient orders revenge on hospital boss
An irate patient who ordered large amounts of high-quality sushi under a hospital's name to strike back at its director has been arrested, police said Wednesday.
Officers alleged that the patient, an unemployed 36-year-old from Mitaka, Tokyo, was so infuriated after the director told him off for abusing sleeping pills that he requested some 13,000 yen worth of sushi be delivered to the institution.
In addition to ordering the five portions of high-quality sushi on May 24, the man allegedly filled the keyhole of a hospital door with glue in mid-March. He also ordered diamond necklaces and other mail-order goods under the hospital's name in April.
Other food delivered to the hospital in May included pizza. The number of orders and other incidents the patient carried out to irk the institution totaled 60, police said.
The man had entered the hospital for treatment in January. The director scolded him over the pills in March.

K-k-k-k-k-kawaii! I would say that Tuesday is just as cute as Tsubasa.
Today is the 12th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre. On this day in 1989, thousands of pro-democracy students protesting in Tiananmen Square were killed by the government troops. If the students didn't die on the streets of Beijing, they passed away later in overcrowded hospitals.
And they had the gall to say that no one died.

Murdoc: "Self-taught bassist, wannabe frontman, he's the band's warped back seat driver who knows that good tunes aren't enough to succeed. You need good looks - which he hasn't got - and a twisted mind - which he has."
Russel: "A hip-hop hard man from the US of A, Russel draws upon spooky spirit mates to help guide his beats. The funkyphantoms live within Russel's hunking frame and pop out every so often to provide some undead rapping."

I'm not sure what to feel about this. Apparently, the Living Colours blog was a combination of the experiences of three people who had cancer. Debbie has written an apology and explanation of the whole thing. I don't think Debbie wanted to hurt anyone.
I believe that someone called Kaycee was real, (though the blog wasn't really hers), and has passed away. The grief felt by her family and friends is real. To quote the BWG, "my only regret is that kaycee is no longer living. that's really the bottom line, isn't it?"
What kind of cat am I? Apparently I'm an Ocicat: "The Ocicat is both playful and devoted. She may spring into action on a whim at any moment, or languidly pass an hour away in the lap of a loved one. The Ocicat is happiest with friends and struggles at being solitary for any period of time. Her exotic, no-fuss coat is a breeze to maintain, and looking her best comes easily. Inquisitive by nature, she gets into trouble from time to time. But any trouble is soon forgotten because she is off on a new adventure in a flash!"
Umm...not really. If I were to be a little, furry animal, it would have to be this:

There are days when I absolutely can't stand computers. I mean my classes. Instead of writing an exam, we have to write a program in C++ that involves CGI. Which is great because I hate writing exams, even computer ones. But it's not so great when the program doesn't work. I've checked to code over and over, it compiles properly, but the actual webpage takes forever to load. I've tried commenting out most of the code, making new functions and changing the class that the teacher gave us, but nothing works. Maybe it's the computer...
(Later...) Alright, I've got it narrowed to one, single, annoying line of code that slows everything down. Just one line of code. Argh! I'm going to pull all my hair out over this.
(Even later...)
Right now, I'm a combination of Urd and Skuld: confusion/cluelessness and annoyance verging on absolute rage. Where's that hammer?
You may address me as Pondscum.
(Later...)Pardon me. I am now a Li'l Wriggler.

Over at Asian Avenue, members were recently asked about their experiences as an Asian American (or Canadian ^_^). This is what jashik29 had to say:
"Evil rice. The most mystifying phenomenon about being an Asian American is that... annoying piece of rice that always seems to be stuck at the bottom of your sock... you know its there but don`t bother to take it off cuz' its all crusty or gooey..."
I have to say.....that is so true. Rice is evil and it's sticky and it's out to get socks everywhere.

(Later) Sweet! I've learned how to use CuteFTP. It's surprisingly easy to use, even for a dunce like me. So now the site is at digitalrice instead of geocities....no more annoying pop-ups! Sweet!

Today is not a good electronics day....methinks that the Blogger ftp to Geocities only works when I'm actually logged in at Geocities. In addition to this, I took some pics with my dad's digital camera, but it doesn't seem to want to connect to the computer properly.
sugarhigh, bloggy-blog-blog. Thanks to this blogmistress, I'm checking out digitalrice.com instead of geocities. 48 hours until my site is activated. *cackles gleefully*....I just like the name. Digital Rice.
Hee hee hee! The Leafs won again! Booyah! Booyah! Booyah! Series tied 3 to 2. One more and we're golden....

Today was MAD. Music, Arts, and Drama day. Some of the displays by the OAC art students are amazing. However. My AP Computer class is in desparate need of review for the AP Compters exam next tuesday. So wer all have to miss all the plays, a workshop and some music. Pooh. And my toe still hurts.
For those of you who don't know yet, Tina won the million dollars on Survivor 2: The Australian Outback. Towards the end, I was kind of rooting for Colby, but either one was fine. Not like the first series. I didn't want Kelly or Rich to win.
Ah yes...And the Leafs won again: 3-1 over New Jersey. I've said it before, and I'll say it again....Booyah!

"Man it's a hot one ... like seven inches from the midday sun..."
- Santana, "Smooth"
30 degrees celcius today. And there was a smog alert today. Perfect combination. The school finally turned on the air con today ("We have air con?"). Ahh....nothing feels better than coming home and changing from a sticky school uniform into a tank top and shorts and eating ice cream...
I've never seen anything like this before: Exploding Dog. But I love it. The person who runs it takes titles that readers send in and draws a picture to go with it. Very creative and funny.
Non sequitur: your brain can't feel pain. But I bet it can if you go to SCS. We were this close to getting "My brain hurts" as our grad class slogan on our grad sweaters. Instead we have "It was all a dream", which is, if I'm not mistaken, the title of Dream's new CD. Okay, I for one don't want the name of some teeny-bopper album printed on my back. Actually the first time we voted for it, the top choice was something completely different (and sounded a lot better). But those who didn't want it complained until the class president allowed a second vote. Yeesh. As long as it isn't orange with baby blue writing, I'll be happy. But no orange.

My toe still hurts. It was a stupid mistake. I stubbed it really painfully hard (while jumping off the counter). D'oh. So for the past two days I've had to walk like Verbal Kent (sp?) from the Usual Suspects. That can't be a good thing... On another note, my brother is back from university. The house is suddenly very messy and empty of food. His girlfriend says he's the human version of entropy: wherever he goes, random chaos follows. And it's true :) My brother, Mr. E.
Non sequitur: Durians are evil. Stinky evil fruit.

I visited Adcritic.com today to find some of the music that is used in TV commercials. Here are some:
Galaxie 500 - Instrumental
Donovan - Mellow Yellow
Euphoria - Delerium
Hyperphonics - Wardrope
Anyway, I really need to get back to work. But since I put up the new template, I might as well aupdate it with something. And I have yet to talk about my toe. Ugh. I have to limp around the house.
Non sequitur...Exactly how do you catch a wink?
4.27.2001
And the new template is not working. BLARGH! Very. Frustrating. It's probably just one spelling error that's messing everything up. Grr....
...Alright, I've figured out the template. But it seems Blogger is acting up. The FTP to Geocities isn't working, so I'm moving it back to blogger temporarily. For you personal entertainment: Urban Essence: A photographic journey through Tokyo. Beautiful photos.

Hi ho, hi ho... And the hunt for a summer job begins. No more daycamp. At first I was aiming for some kind of office job (filing, fetching coffee, scouring the floor, saving the world, etc.) or something cushy (I'm only human). But it looks like I'm headed for a cashier-type position at some sort of chain store (i.e. HMV, Sam's, and God forbid, Longo's). *sigh*
More bloggy goodness...Tokyo Tales. A fellow Pocky addict teaching in Tokyo. I wish I had sugar swizzle sticks...
Disgruntled with my site design again. This is, what, the fourth so far? Expect changes in the site design soon...

Went to get a haircut. All I have to say is:
- I am not a troll doll.
- I am not a shrub from Versailles.
- Twenty three dollars?!?!
Yes! I finally got the linking-to-a-post thingie working. And I finally managed to download Drops of Jupiter by Train:
Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey, hey
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's time to change, hey, hey
Since the return from her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey
Azn p0w3r...( skyey ), Walk On The Edge, Aiyah!. I particularly like the title of that one. Also Lillian Chan, steven-ng.com, and Bebe (this one has a really really nice design).

More links...The Making of a Restaurant. Interesting stuff. Restaurant info, jokes, etc. Also, this link that I "borrowed" from usr/bin/girl, which was in turn borrowed from another site: How To Hide Your Ninja Lifestyle From Your Co-workers. Walking is a good idea.

My stomach is feeling rumbly. As in small internal earthquakes. It can't be a good thing. And I just got 33 junk email messages in one day. 33. I've gotten so many that my block sender list has reached its limit (250) and I've had to switch email addresses, from hotmail to yahoo.

Don't get me wrong. I love nature. It's beautiful. But the fact remains that Mother Earth and I seem to be arch enemies. It's a love-hate relationship. I have a tendency to get stung by insects or rained upon everytime I venture outside.
The fact that my father wants to go on a camping trip in August doesn't make this any better. It's in B.C., which is great because it's beautiful there and I haven't been to Vancouver before. BUT. It's for 10 days. And my brother and dad both snore like Mack trucks. I can take the tent life. I can take the hole in the ground washroom facilities. I can endure hiking and campfires and the like (I even enjoy those things). But not for 10 days. I think it's mostly the lack of a computer and internet connection that will exist while I'm there ^_^.
I've been camping once before. It was cold, wet and poorly organised. Plus I was in a three person tent with three other people. So it was a little squished. All in all, a bad experience (the canoes barely fit everyone and everything on board and a couple of people got soaked).
Five years ago, we asked Dad if he wanted to go camping. He said no. However, he seems to be going through a "phase", during which he is obsessed with spending as much time outside as possible. My brother says it's a midlife crisis. My mom just shakes her head and sighs (she's even more techy about camping than I am). So now we are pretty much bound for B.C. Despite my aversion to the outdoors (No! Natural light!), I think I'll live (and enjoy it in the process).

Captain Mondo's World of Mondoness: Apart from the spiffy title, Captain Mondo is also from Toronto, which is cool.
Also...it's Ping! Finally!

Pah. Silly me. The lyrics from yesterday are from the song Trading My Sorrows. I forget who wrote it.
I'm pressed but not crushed
Pesecuted not abandoned
Struck down but not destroyed
I am blessed beyond the curse
But his promise will endure
That his joy's gonna be my strength
Though the sorrow may last for the night
His joy comes in the morning.
I'm trading my sorrows...
And so on and so forth...
Linkety link link... I like books. I like reading. It is because I read so much
All Your Base jokes are spawning at an incredible rate. See here (Neobaka), here, and here (Avalon).

"Spring, thy name is colour"
I forget who said that. But it's true. Yesterday...a whopping 25 degrees Celcius. In the second week of April. In Toronto. It beat the old record of 21.4 degrees set in some year I can't remember.
I'm trading my sorrows
I'm trading my shame
I'm laying them down for the joy of the Lord
I'm trading my sickness
I'm trading my pain
I'm laying them down for the joy of the Lord
